Many people today aren’t leading happy lives. Sorrow and sadness cover the masses like a heavy blanket. Most of us look for happiness as if it’s a hidden treasure that we will eventually discover, but it’s often very elusive. Driven by the need to be happy, we pursue many things. We believe that if we make enough money, marry the right spouse or land the dream job, that life will be satisfying. However, many people who have all of the above still lead a life of misery and turmoil.
What Is Joy?
Joy is a feeling of gladness, delight, pleasure, and happiness. Similar to all of our emotions, it’s a mental state of being that comes from within. It’s a gift that we can give ourselves at any time that we choose. When you have joy in your heart, it allows you to endure the challenges of life with patience, gratitude, and confidence. Unfortunately, we allow our conditions to be dictated by what we see, what we hear, and what we have. If we ever learn to fill ourselves with joy, we will find the strength to overcome obstacles, have hope when things seem hopeless, and eventually convert our sorrow to happiness.
The Key To Finding Joy
Have you ever heard the phrase, “Take Pleasure”? It hints at the idea that pleasure is a choice that you can make. Taking pleasure is usually something we do when we are on vacation. We allow ourselves to escape the world, and we permit ourselves to be at peace and contentment. We lose all the mental pressures and constraints of our daily lives and give ourselves a break. Think of the last pleasurable trip you took. Were you lighter? Did you smile more and find that people seemed nicer? Were you more patient and kind even if you had a brief moment of inconvenience? I’m sure you did! You may have even felt like a different person. The thing that made the difference was that you changed your environment, participated in something you love, and opened up your heart to receive joy.
When life is unbearable, and sorrow fills your heart, find a moment to take pleasure. Give yourself permission to take a walk in nature and bask in the peace of it. Spend time with those you love doing the small things that make you laugh. Give the gift of your time to someone in need, and I guarantee you that your heart will be joy-filled, and happiness will overflow in your life!
